Gerbil Blog for Twin Squeaks

Congratulations, Herman!

Herman the gerbil with his ribbonI’ve been very slow to update the Twin Squeaks site over the past couple of months, because it’s been such a busy time! But I do have plenty of news to report, which I'll try to do over the next few days in a series of blog posts.

First, our gerbil Herman received 1st Place in the White Belly class at the 2008 New England Gerbil Show.

Herman went on to compete for Best In Show. The final decision came down to Herman and one other gorgeous gerbil named Adam from Garden of Eden Gerbils.

Adam beat Herman for Best In Show, but Herman had still accumulated enough show points at the 2007 New England Show, 2007 Midwest Show, and 2008 New England Show to walk away with an American Gerbil Society Championship.

Herman the gerbilWhen a gerbil earns enough show points to receive a Championship, he or she also retires from competing in gerbil shows, so Herman has reached the highest level a gerbil can achieve in the gerbil show ring, and he can now enjoy his retirement. :)

I’ve included a photo below of three of the gerbils who earned their Championships that day. From left to right in the photo are:

Kaden, who was Herman’s mate and is the mother of Herman’s son Sebastian. Kaden is pictured with her breeder, Jo Kelley of Black Wolf Clan Gerbils.

Herman (with me). Herman and Kaden were the first mated pair in American Gerbil Society history to both earn Championships. Even more special is that they both got their Championships on the same day.

Adam who is pictured with his proud owner Kelly Johnson of Garden Of Eden Gerbils. Adam also won Best In Show.

Thanks! Sorry that I haven't been able to update the blog as often as usual. It's been such a busy spring/summer! New job, trip halfway across the country for the gerbil show, etc. :)

I hope to start posting to the Twin Squeaks Blog and making other site updates more frequently now that things are starting to calm down a bit. :)

How is Adam doing these days? Is he enjoying his retirement, too? :)

Yes! Adam is living the laid-back lifestyle in his retirement from the show circuit. He was getting lots of sunnies, after the show, so he's been running the wheel more to keep in shape. He's living with his son, John, and they are very happy together. Although, John is kinda trying to persuade Adam into a remarriage and trying to hook up Adam with a sweet Grey Agouti lady, named Frozen Tundra, from Black Wolf Clan. Adam would then live with one or two of his new sons (hopefully) and John would probably enjoy a youngster or two to keep him occupied, too.
Adam seems slightly jealous of Herman's retirement rosette. :) :)

Did you get Frozen Tundra at the NE Show? Which line is she from? :)

Tough choices for Adam! Should he stay with his son or take another chance with a romance??

Oh, and Herman says to tell Adam that he's slightly jealous of his rosette, too. ;-D

How is Truth doing? Herman says to tell her hi. :)

Yup, Frozen Tundra comes from BWC's Extreme Mottled lines, many of whom have "wintery" names.

Awww. Herman has many accomplishments in his own right and was very close to winning the Best In Show rosette and he IS a champion! We were especially amazed at his gerbil agility!

Truth is doing VERY good! *Paw waving.* :)
