A Nice Photo Of Hope

Hope at 3 years, 11 monthsJust had to share this photo of Hope. I took this picture this past weekend when Hope was out playing on the couch one morning. Hope is now over 3 years, 11 months old. I really like this photo of her, because not only can you see her age, but you can also see her incredibly sweet disposition. She might be the sweetest, friendliest gerbil I've ever known.

To give you an idea of how old Hope is, my friend Libby of Shawsheen River Gerbils has a formula for calculating a gerbil's age to relate it to human years. According to Libby, Hope just turned 98 years old (in gerbil years) on Sunday. I feel very fortunate for all of the time that I've had with Hope. She's really an incredible gerbil. :)

New Photos Of Herman's Kids

Herman and Kadence's family

Herman's pups
Jo sent several new photos of Herman's pups today. All six are healthy and doing well! Their ears are open a little bit more than they were this weekend, but their eyes won't open for a quite a while yet. It looks like one of the pups will be spotted. We should know more about their colors this weekend. And hopefully soon we'll know which are boys and which are girls so that I can pick out a male pup to come home with Herman next month. :)

Karate Gerbils!

Karate TobyThis is too funny.

About a week ago, I took a bunch of photos of my gerbils. When I uploaded the photos to my computer and looked through them, I noticed that three of my gerbils (Toby, Mike, and Gobo) all struck karate poses for the camera.

What a funny coincidence!

The First Photos Of Herman's Pups

Herman's pupsJo from Black Wolf Clan sent some photos of Herman and Kadence's pups today!

I reported earlier that there were five pups, but there were actually six pups buried in the nest. As you can see from the photo, they don't have any fur yet, so it will be several days before we can tell what colors Herman's pups might be. Herman and Kaden can definitely have pups the same color as Herman and the same color as Herman's mother Sundae (from Double Star Kennels), but they may be able to have a few other colors as well. I'm anxious to see what colors the pups are.

I'm sure the difficult part will be choosing which of the pups will come home with Herman next month to be his tankmate. :)

Maeby & Nellie Are Together Again

In other news, a while back, Maeby and Nellie decided they didn't want to live together peacefully anymore. They're both a bit older and more mellow now, so I decided to try another split-cage introduction to see if they would go back together.

Maeby and Nellie together againI'm happy to report that yesterday Maeby and Nellie were reunited! They're currently snuggling in their nest together and are quite happy to finally have the company of another gerbil again. :)

The photo to the left was taken during their introduction yesterday. Don't they look happy to be in each others' lives again??

Herman's A Dad!

Herman and Kadence prepare a nest for the pupsI just got word from Jo at Black Wolf Clan Gerbils that Herman and Kadence are new parents! Kaden had a litter of five pups this morning!

The photo to the right is of Herman and Kaden preparing a nest earlier in the week, before the pups were born.

Sometime next month, Herman will return home with one of his sons. Can't wait! :)

Grace & Tori's Nieces & Nephews

Not too long ago, Grace and Tori's sister Radar, who lives at Black Wolf Clan in Missouri, had a litter of pups. They are all red foxes are REHs. It's very neat to see, because Radar's litter looks almost exactly like Audrey and Ramona's litter did when we found them at a pet store.

Thanks, Jo, for sending the photos of Grace and Tori's newest family members!

Grace & Tori's Movie

Grace and Tori, the gerbils I adopted at the 2007 American Gerbil Society Midwest Show are growing up to be real sweethearts. I've posted a video of them below. Enjoy!

Long Time, No Post!

Well, it has certainly been a long time since I've posted anything here! I hope to do a much better job of keeping up with this blog from here on out! It's been a busy time at Twin Squeaks.

You may have noticed that the site is slowly getting a major overhaul to a new design. I hope you like the new look!

As far as our gerbils go, everyone is still doing very well. Hope is quite old now (nearly 4 years old!) and has arthritis in her hips, but she's still getting around really well, all things considered! She loves spending time sitting on the couch with me. :)

HermanThe big news is that Herman is currently vacationing in Missouri with his new wife Kaden. I don't breed gerbils myself, but Herman's been living alone for a while, and my friend Jo at Black Wolf Clan Gerbils was very interested in breeding Herman after he won Best In Show in the American Gerbil Society's 2007 Virtual Show.

The plan is for Herman to raise a couple of litters with Kaden, and then he'll return home with one of his sons. I miss Herman horribly right now, but I didn't like to see him living alone, and I'm really looking forward to meeting his son when he comes back home!

Me with Grace and ToriWe also have a pair of new gerbils! Grace and Tori are a pair of red fox sisters who were born in July. They are incredibly cute and very sweet! We're still working on getting them hand tame, but they're making great progress! It's really nice to have another pair of red fox girls again, because Audrey and Ramona and Faith and Hope were red fox pairs as well. :)

I hope that you and your gerbils are doing well! I'll do my best to keep you updated on the world of gerbils and the happenings here at Twin Squeaks!
