Gerbil Ready For Halloween

Check out the Sun-Sentinel's collection of Halloween pet photos. In particular, note that a gerbil photo is included! Look for Cowboy Odie the gerbil on page 3.

Gerbil Comic Strip

Just ran across the comic strip Dork Tower Classic and this comic strip about gerbils and toilet paper tubes.

New Picture Of The Week & Gerbil Poll

This morning, we have a new Gerbil Picture Of The Week. Thank you to Samantha for sending us this great photo of her gerbils, Scrat and Marvin. If you want to see your gerbils on our Web site, just send us a photo, and we'll consider it for a future Gerbil Picture Of The Week.

We also have a new Gerbil Poll for you to answer. We posted the new poll question Thursday night and want to know how you tame new gerbils. If you have an idea for a poll question, please let me know, and I might be able to use your question in a future poll. :)

Gerbil Show Update

Hello, everyone! Greetings from the 2006 American Gerbil Society Midwest Show! This is probably the last lull before the day gets very busy.

I got a ride to the show with Michele from Double Star Kennels. I didn't bring any of my gerbils to the show this year, but Michele and Cory both brought quite a few gerbils (and an adorable pair of Michele's robo hamsters). The entire back of Michele's Jeep Liberty was stuffed with gerbils. I plan to get a photo of the Jeep after we load it for the return trip tomorrow. Sure, Michele and Cory might adopt out some of their gerbils, but I'm willing to bet at least one of us comes home with a few new gerbils. ;-D

Last night was busy. I helped with health inspections, and everyone started setting up their tables once their gerbils and supplies had been through inspections. There are a lot of gorgeous gerbils at this show. Quite a few pups that haven't been weaned yet, too. They're a lot of fun to watch.

I took several photos as people were setting up last night, you can see the pictures in my 2006 Midwest Show album.

If you're in the Springfield, Missouri area and want to come to the gerbil show today, there will be plenty of exhibits to see, supplies to buy, and gerbils to adopt. There will also be activities for kids at the show. The cost to attend is just $1, so consider stopping by the Oasis Inn & Convention Center.

Doors open to the public at 11:00 this morning, and judging starts at noon. At 1:00, the pet class begins. Any gerbil can compete in the pet class. There are also children's activities at this time. The show runs through 6:30 tonight, so even if you aren't showing a gerbil, consider stopping by! You can find more information on the AGS Midwest Show page.

I'm going to be judging at today's show, so I don't know how many chances I'll have to get photos, but I'm taking my camera and will get as many photos as I can. (If you stop by the show and catch me when I'm not busy, please say hi!)

A few other brief notes: We posted the results of last week's gerbil poll yesterday. And this morning, there's a new Gerbil Picture Of The Week. This week's photo comes from the gerbil show! If you have a gerbil picture you'd like to see on our Web site, please send it to us, and we'll be happy to use it.

I hope to post later today or tomorrow with more updates from the gerbil show, so stay tuned!

New Activity On Gerbil Games Page!

There is a new activity on the Gerbil Games page. This one isn't so much a game as it is an activity. You can learn how to make and wrap a fun gift for your gerbil. This is a great surprise for your gerbil's birthday or other special event!

New Gerbil Tip Shows You Two Simple Gerbil Toys

Buster and Herman play with a brown paper lunch sack. We've posted the October Tip Of The Month. In this month's tip, we'll help you find two simple and fun gerbil toys. Neither of these toys are in the hamster/gerbil aisle of the pet shop, but your gerbils will love them. :)

Several New Photos Of Buster & Herman

After Buster and Herman's tank cleaning this morning, I got some new photos of them, which you can see on pages 6 and 7 of their photo album. Buster and Herman moved to a bigger tank this morning and really seemed to be enjoying themselves. :)

New Photos Of Hope

After Hope's tank cleaning tonight, I got a few new pictures of her. I wanted to photograph her playing with her new toys, but she was more excited to sit in and run in her exercise wheel. Like most gerbils, she's obsessed with her wheel. She has played with her new toys quite a bit but not when I had the camera out. ;)

You can see the new photos of Hope at the end of the last page of her photo album.

In other news, we bought a larger tank for Buster and Herman tonight, and I plan to move them into their new, bigger home either tomorrow or early this week. I think they'll be ecstatic to have the extra space and some more toys.

New Gerbil Photo Of The Week

The newest Gerbil Photo Of The Week is online now. Stop by and see Pippi enjoying a Cheerio!

Also, please email us your favorite gerbil photo, and we might use your gerbil photo on this page!
