A Few More Thoughts About Samantha

Samantha's burial placeAs promised, I took some photos of Samantha's burial spot at the pet cemetery this past weekend. It was a beautiful day when we went out there. Nice and warm and sunny. Compared to the cold, rainy weather we've been having, it was the perfect day to take some flowers out for Samantha.

The photo above is where Sam is buried. She was laid to rest right next to her former tankmate Suzie. Samantha's marker isn't finished yet, so for now, the flowers I placed in the ground are the only real marker of her burial spot.

Tonight, we moved Hope's tank downstairs right next to the couch, where Samantha's tank had been. It's nice to hear the sound of little paws digging in the bedding again. That corner of the room had been too silent for the past week and a half.

Next week, I plan to make a memorial donation to the local Humane Society. It's a great way, I think, to remember Samantha. She was a rescue gerbil, and I'm glad that her memorial donation will help other lost or abandoned animals find good homes.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It really means a lot.

We were so lucky to have Samantha with us as long as we did. She was a very sweet and very special gerbil. When she was happy, especially after she got a new toy or a favorite treat, she would look right at me and chirp. :)

It's been hard losing her, but all of the great memories have made things a bit easier.
