Pippi the gerbil loves running in her exercise wheel.
Pippi loves running in her exercise wheel, but sometimes, the wheel gets squeaky.

Most gerbils love to run in an exercise wheel. It's a great way for them to stay in shape, and it keeps them happy and entertained. However, sometimes, an exercise wheel gets squeaky and can annoy everyone else in the house!

There's a very simple way you can deal with a loud, squeaky wheel, though. In this tip, we'll show you how to make your gerbil's exercise wheel silent so you can have some peace and quiet.

Olive Oil Helps Tremendously

When your gerbils' wheel starts squeaking, just get a bottle of olive oil. Other types of olive oil work, too, but the great thing about olive oil is that it is healthy, so if your gerbils lick at the exercise wheel, the olive oil will be good for them.

Gerbils sometimes lick olive oil off an exercise wheel.
Don't be alarmed if your gerbils lick the wheel after you oil it. Olive oil is healthy and won't hurt your gerbils in such a small quantity.
Put a little dab of olive oil on your index finger. Then rub your index finger and thumb together so that you have olive oil on both. Then gently rub the spokes of the exercise wheel. When your gerbils start running in the wheel again, it should be silent. If not, just put a little bit more olive oil on the spokes.

Don't be surprised if your gerbil stands up and tries to lick at the olive oil. This is normal and won't hurt anything.

Over time, the wheel will start squeaking again. When it does, just apply some more olive oil, and you'll once again have a silent wheel.
